Tom Hanks’ rapping son, Chet Hanks (aka Chet Haze), caused quite a stir when he used the n-word on Instagram a while back. In the beginning, he refused to apologize and said the black community was hating on him. Things have changed now that Haze has finished a stint in rehab. He posted a video on Instagram apologizing for using the racial slur in the first place. He even went as far as to admit it was due to his use of drugs including cocaine.

Chet Haze explained the controversy was during a low point in his life where drugs were the only way he knew how to cope with the pressures of being the offspring of a beloved celebrity like Hanks. His initial defiance when it came to removing the n-word from his vocabulary, he says, was a prime example of his dark period. Haze said in his video, “That stuff I was in about the n-word, the truth is it’s not my place to speak on that and I’m genuinely sorry to the people I offended.”

The young man seems to have turned over a new leaf. He posts videos thanking people for their support and urging other addicts to get their lives back on the right track by entering rehab.

Take a look at Chet Haze’s apology below.
